Jessika Smith Graduate Student- MS in Biology Program

I attended CSU Stanislaus as a transfer student from Delta College and as someone who has always been curious about many topics, and pursued Biology Education as an undergraduate. Considering biology itself is such a broad science with multiple areas of interest, this career path has allowed me to take a variety of biology classes.  After teaching for 3 years in the Stockton area, I felt my own curiosity once again creeping back up on me. This led me to pursue a master’s degree in Biology, so I may teach students about how climate change underlies all biological disciplines, and provide awareness to students as a relatable topic of interest. I am currently interested in how climate changes affects animal physiology. My ultimate goal is to bring my experiences in field and lab work, writing, and everything else I learn as a graduate student, back to the classroom. My future career goal is to teach at the Junior College level, and if I continue to appease my curiosity, to potentially pursue a doctoral degree. Most of my time is spent on school whether as an instructor or student, but when time permits, I like to spend it with family and friends, recreating recipes to be vegan friendly, playing video games, and creating YouTube videos.

Jessika is currently working on how thermal stress is underlying population range expansion in California grunion

Zachary Chituras Undergraduate student in biology
After taking animal physiology I have found an area of biology that I have been very interested in. My plan ever since coming to CSU Stanislaus is to attend veterinary school so that I can be a veterinarian and help animals. I still hope to do this, but if I decide to stay on the academic route and pursue a master's or doctorate degree then I have a better idea of what I would be pursuing. Most of my time is spent at school or at a veterinary clinic in Oakdale.  I volunteer there every week to learn more about career I am wanting to get into. I was also in the Army for three years; where I realized that school is not so bad. Other than that I like to spend time with friends and family, hunt, fish, shoot sporting clays, and also do some photography work
Zach is currently working on the characterization of osmoregulatory mechanisms in grunion embryos and the rat anesthesia project.
